The Alton Towers homepage has been advertising "All Time Greats - Which one will take the crown?" in recent days and a new TV advert, featuring the classic Alton Towers soundtrack can be viewed here which showcases the big 5 coasters at the park backed up by the classic sounds of Tom Baker (of 1994 Nemesis advert fame) and a new version of In The Hall Of The Mountain King, the parks classic soundtrack.

Another longer video, featuring press-happy ex-politicians Neil and Christine Hamilton has been sourced on YouTube, which shows the couple humourusly advertising their preferred rollercoaster.

The campaign focuses around Nemesis, Oblivion, Air, Rita and Th13teen - and is presumed to be designed at boosting summer attendance at the UK's biggest theme park. Alton Towers have also uploaded high quality videos for the original TV adverts for these rides, which can be seen on the official YouTube channel! Guests are invited to vote for their favourite, and could win a prize.

With rumours building about the Secret Weapon 7 plans which are currently top secret - it has come as a suprise to many that Alton Towers' forthcoming 2013 projects plans are on show - for all guests to see!

Forum member, siralgenon, has posted images of the find - together with a range of other Alton Towers related literature, including the fine work - The Boy who looked down and The life and times of Algenon Alton by renowned author W.I. Burton.

The plans are located inside SW7 - Top secret plans. All of these new literary treats can be seen by visiting the Resort Box Office on Towers Street, home to the sales and information team who advise guests on hotel stays and fastrack options for their visit.

TowersTimes are delighted to see that such fine works have finally been made available for guests. Sadly, none of the books are actually available to read which has really upset many devoted fans of the resort!

May 19th 2011:

In recent days the Alton Towers Resort DVD shop on Towers Street has been closed with many believing that the product that offered videos of guests on some of the biggest attractions at the Resort was no longer for sale.

Formally known as YourDay the product had been plagued with problems from the start, with technical issues and poor sales. It seems now that the fate of the product has now been sealed as a new shop opened on Towers Street today in the former Alton Towers Resort DVD store. The new shop is known as Resort Box Office.

The Resort Box Office opened this morning, operated by the Sales & Information team, offering services such as Fastrack, Short Break bookings and also replacing the Annual Pass office. The Resort Box Office gives a greater showcase for these products, whereas previously they were hidden away in smaller locations on Towers Street or around the park.

The transformation to the Resort Box Office from the Alton Towers Resort DVD shop took place last night after park close.

New Rollercoaster for 2013

Ian Crabbe, Divisional Director of Alton Towers Resort, today revealed the scale of the plans for the new rollercoaster development, set to open for the 2013 theme park season.

Expected to be the next rollercoaster in the Secret Weapon line-up, following Nemesis (1994), Oblivion (1998), Air (2002) and Th13teen (2010), the ride has now been confirmed as a 'world first' and 'more expensive than Th13teen' - meaning that the price is above £15million. The pricetag for the LC12 development at THORPE PARK in 2012 is around £18million, so we may see a similar price here.

The plans are currently top secret and it is thought that John Wardley is working on the ride in an advisory role, however little is known at this time in terms of factual evidence. It is expected that the ride, unlike Th13teen, will have a 1.4metre height restriction (similar to Nemesis, Air, Oblivion and Rita) and a thrill focus.

The location of the new attraction could be one of several: key locations are thought to be Coaster Corner (behind Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) and the car park behind Air. The manufacturer of the ride is unknown at this time, although Merlin are installing three Bolliger and Mabillard rollercoasters at Gardaland, Heide Park and THORPE PARK in the next two years.

February 14th 2011:

AltonTowers.com has this morning released details about an upcoming concert to be held at the Resort on 19th June 2011.

The event, to be called 'Alton Towers Live' sees top artists JLS, McFly, The Saturdays and Eliza Doolittle all playing in one concert at the Resort on the Sunday evening, with the show set to kick off at 5.30pm.

Tickets have been announced at £55 each (excluding booking fees), and will go on sale from 9am on Friday 18th February. The concert ticket also includes entry to the theme park for the day, offering fantastic value for those that would normally pay for entry to the park.

The Resort had a fantastic turnout for the P!nk and the Funhouse Carnival Tour concert hosted last year, and, despite the 'Ultimate Event' not returning to the Resort this year, Alton Towers continues to play host to further popular artists concerts such as this.

February 10th 2011:

Alton Towers will be adding a new addition to the Sea Life attraction in Mutiny Bay, Sharkbait Reef.

Skeleton Bay will feature 12 giant Japanese Spider Crabs. In 2010, Sharkbait Reef was home to a small Japanese Spider Crab exhibit. The press release for the 2011 season suggests that the new exhibit will be themed for a shipwreck.

It is not yet known where the Spider Crabs will be placed in Sharkbait Reef, or if any other displays will be removed.
